Keeping Tradition Alive
After years of freelancing as a graphic designer, I was bitten by the letterpress bug when creating invitations for my own wedding in 2021. Used to only seeing my work on a screen, it was amazing to finally have something real and tactile in my hands to show for it.
Never one to do anything by half, it wasn’t long before I brought home my own press, an antique Chandler & Price. It’s been a beautiful adventure getting her up and running, soaking in all of the knowledge of the small but mighty letterpress community, and bringing my art into reality.
I’m thrilled to share my craft with you for this exciting chapter in your life!
The Artist
I’m Sara, the artist behind B&H. I’ve been a graphic designer for going on a decade, and hold a degree in Art History from the University of Michigan.
I’m particularly interested in historic prints and multiples—it’s no wonder letterpress spoke to me! I’m honored to continue a centuries-old printmaking tradition while making something new.
The Press
I print on an antique Chandler & Price new style platen letterpress. Made of cast iron, it weighs over 1500 pounds.
It was manufactured in the 1920s —looking good for a centenarian, if you ask me! It’s in great condition and ready for another hundred years of printing.
